Five herbs South African households have always kept

Long before any of this was sold in a carton, these five plants were kept in kitchen cupboards across the country. Here is the short version of what each one does.

Buchu

Used for the bladder and for washing out the system. Strong on its own, which is why we blend it.

African potato

An immune herb, earthy and slightly bitter.

Honeybush

Naturally sweet. It is what makes the children's blend drinkable without sugar.

Wild ginger

Warming, good for cramps and for a heavy stomach.

Rooibos

The everyday base. Caffeine free, high in antioxidants and grown in the Cederberg.
